Unintended Consequences of Entitled Prototypes
It's been over a year since I last worked on this project. In the intervening time I've been plugging away on a new game. A retro fps heavily inspired by Half-Life, but that project is still a long way off.
Recently another game you might know as R.E.P.O. has made its way into the forefront of a lot of people's minds and Steam accounts. A playthrough popped up on my YouTube feed and the surreality of a game with a similar name and core concept (albeit multiplayer and having more in common with Lethal Company) slapped me across the face like a wet fish.
I had intended to return to my Repo much later, after my "half-like" was finished, but I decided to change things up. I started working on the game again, updating the project to what was at the time, the most current version of Godot, and refactoring a lot of the code I had written. This project was my first game in Godot when I switched over from Unity and it was a great way to get my feet wet. I learned a lot making it, and have learned even more since then. Reworking the systems and core mechanics has been the bulk of the work recently, but I'm now moving onto newer mechanics and expanding out the core loop of the game, just a bit.
As for the name, I was a bit bummed it has been taken, but them's the breaks. And Good Neighbor Adjustment Bureau is probably a better name anyway. I also didn't think the itch page would receive that much traffic from people looking for R.E.P.O. or games like it, but its been seeing a bit of an uptick, which took me by surprise when randomly checking my dashboard recently. I have changed the cover, URL, and banner to reflect the new name.
If you've played the currently available build (0.1.2), then you might have run into a number of bugs I never got around to fixing after that initial hotfix. Also the game might not be that much fun. I am currently remedying that, or so I hope, and will have a new build available soon.
